Construction
Built in 1979 by to a design by Eivind Amble. White GRP hull with teak rubbing strake. White GRP superstructure with moulded non-slip to decks. Long fin keel with encapsulated ballast. Skeg hung rudder. Cockpit wheel steering. Large and very safe centre cockpit.

As a novice sailor we set off from UK summer of 2001 having refurbished and fitted her out for Med sailing. Found a great base to cover North Africa/Med/Portugal at Rota Spain where she remains. We lived on board for 6 years , but now have found a remote part of France with a barn for conversion! So reluctantly we are giving up sea adventures for a build project. Beautiful Junk rig ideal for inland and offshore cruising.
Originally launched in Wisbeach England in 2000 my farther sailed 'Otter' to Holland and down thought inland water way of Europe to Mediterranean and around the Balearics to Barcelona were she is now moored. Because of 'Otters' versatile nature with retractable centreboard and detachable mast she is ideal for inland and offshore cruising, and is complete with newly reconditioned Engine.
Based on the Cormorant type boat built in 1960s and with Junk rigging she is the ideal boat for either the Cormorant or Junk rig enthusiast.

Boat type: Spharan 30 - a prototype never put into production but based on the Cormorant type boat built in some numbers in Holland in the 1960s.
Length: 9.14m
Beam: 2.75m
Displacement: 5.7 tons
Description: A steel hulled, centreboard shoal-draught motor sailor based on the Dutch grundel-yacht type.
It is of a double chine design, constructed of 10mm mild steel base plate, 12mm keel, stem and skeg and 6mm centreboard casing with decks, coachroof and cockpit in 3mm plate. The decks are overlaid with treadmaster non-slip material. The hull is of 3mm plate with 20x5 curved bar ribs at 600mm centres. Hull seams are fully welded on both sides.
The circular mast partners are incorporated into the coachroof and the foot is welded to the base plate.
The mast is solid Douglas fir 40 feet long and tapering from 11" diameter to 6", sheathed in GRP and finished with a brown gel-coat with the top 6 feet painted white.
The sail is understood to be 500 sq. feet, junk rigged in 7oz. Cream polyester, designed and made in December 2000 by Christopher Scanes of Devon.
Newly reconditioned Yanmar 2 QM15 diesel engine in a compartment below the cockpit.
The interior is finished with a lot of mahogany type panelling and has a fore cabin with single bunk, chemical toilet, wash basin and storage lockers, a saloon with folding centre table mounted on the centreboard housing and 2 seating/bunk units with shelving wells behind and storage beneath, as well as a TV shelf and video recorder recess. The Galley has a cooker with oven, sink, fridge and storage lockers on one side and the chart-table, communication equipment and cupboard on the other. Two bunks extend under the cockpit and a step / toolbox unit is attached to the engine access hatch below the companionway.
The Cockpit has seating to both sides with lockers beneath and a centre stern mounted tiller.
25mm Stainless steel tubing is used on stanchions, pushpin, and pulpit with 5mm stainless wire guardrails. |

The boat is a good example of a Dynamique 47, a high quality French yard. the design is by Joubert Nivelt and is a nice looking boat. The boat is a solid and comfortable cruising boat, with good equipment and sailing capability, and is well maintained with all the necessary equipment. The interior is very nicely built and is clearly of a boat built by a non production yard. The forward cabin is large and so is the saloon. There are 2 double aft cabins. The cockpit is comfortable with a platform to add extra space.
